A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
A NATURAL POET
It was at the dawn of the year 2016, the Kannada readers all over the country got to read a headline news in daily papers that Shri B.A.Sanadi, a renowned poet from Belgaum, now living in the coastal town Kumta in North Karnataka district, is selected by Karnataka Government for a state level prestigious literary award – Pampa Prashasti for his total contribution to Kannada literature for the past 50 years. Going by the history of this State Award named after the first ever great poet Pampa (10th Century), it is observed that the scheme was actually commenced from the year 1987, and the very first award was conferred on the modern great poet Kurempu (20th Century) for his epic poem ‘Shri-Ramayandarshanam’ which was later honoured by the All India Jnanapith Award!
In all, 29 literary personalities are bestowed upon by Pampa Prashasti from the year of its inception, the latest being B.A.Sanadi. Earlier too, he has received several Honorary Awards from State Academy of letters and other literary associations. The Karnataka University also bestowed upon him with an Hon. Doctorate in literature in the year 2005. His crown-like honour is this Pamp Prashasti as this is the first time in it’s history that a Muslim poet has been honoured with this award. In fact, B.A.Sanadi always stood for action-oriented secularization of the Indian mind to build up a new society of the coming generation.
